1979 TRIUMPH TR7, ULTRA LOW MILEAGE 874, PROBABLY UNIQUE ! Introduced in 1975 but still up-to-the-minute in looks, the TR7 marked the Triumph TR sports car's abandonment of its traditional separate chassis. Other changes from preceding TR5 and 6 Formulas included the abandonment of the traditional six-cylinder engines and independent rear suspension.

Initially, the TR7 was available only in coupe form because of fears that the U.S. would outlaw convertibles. This never came to pass and in 1979, a drophead version was added. The TR7 cockpit is reasonably comfortable. Wider and more spacious than the TR4 series and TR6 cars, it also had far less character.

In five-speed guise the TR7 incorporates a version of the SD1 axle, fitted with 9′ x 1¾" drum brakes. Cars with the Borg Warner Model 65 automatic gearbox option (£219) use the old Triumph axle fitted with 8″ x 1.5″ drums. Both models have 9.75″ front disc brakes.
